Pupils’ award marks winning names of new homes
Inventive pupils at Caistor Yarborough School have received just reward, with a new house trophy funded by developer Cannon Kirk Homes.
The first phase of Romans Walk, off North Kelsey Road, was launched
this spring, with pupils from the specialist arts college naming the streets and house types after themes linking the town’s ancient origins with its more recent history.
As a thank you they have been presented with a cheque for £250 by Cannon Kirk Homes, to fund a new school house trophy – The House Champions’ Roll of Honour - awarded annually for ongoing effort.
Cannon Kirk decided to consult the local community over the street and design names of the two, three and four-bedroom homes at Romans Walk and called on Yarborough School for inspiration. Assistant Headteacher Pam Watson came up with a competition among school houses, involving mixed groups of 11 to 16 year-olds. They researched the site and its history, asking parents and older members of the community for ideas and memories.
The winning names, selected by Cannon Kirk, feature Roman emperors for the streets - like Hadrian Way, Augustus Walk and Nero Close - to reflect the early beginnings of the town. House types, including Maple, Birch and Holly, revive ward names at the old Caistor Hospital, which previously stood on site.
