Pupils ‘log on’ to story time, with trunk call to Cannon Kirk Homes
Pupils at Millfield Primary School, Littleport, are sitting comfortably, with the bonus of natural log ‘benches’ to enhance an outdoor story-telling area, thanks to their neighbour, developer Cannon Kirk Homes.
The felling of trees for the latest phase of Cannon Kirk’s Highfields housing scheme led to a surfeit of trunks stacked at the entrance to the development, which Head Teacher Lydia Harris spotted could be a bonus to the school grounds.
“I had my eye on the trunks for a while, as they had become nicely bleached by the elements, so I asked Cannon Kirk if they would let us have them. They very kindly obliged.
“Our story-telling mound is a focal point of the grounds and the tree trunks provide the perfect solution for seating. They will look both natural and attractive and will be really useful, as there are enough to seat a whole class of about 30 children.”
Ms Harris said Cannon Kirk had proved a good neighbour throughout construction. The development will ultimately feature a network of footpaths and cycle tracks, enabling pupils living at Highfields to walk and cycle safely to school.
Millfield Primary School roll of 216 will continue to grow with the expansion of Highfields. The recent release of two, three and four-bedroom designs forms part of the third phase of 49 homes, with ongoing construction throughout the year.
The latest phase combines stylish comfort and competitive value in new designs, adding further interest to the evolving development. Prices range from £135,000 to £262,995.
Michael Broughton Chief Executive Officer at Cannon Kirk Homes commented:
“We have always had good relations with Millfield Primary School. Many of the pupils live at Highfields, including all those pictured and we are always happy to help.
“Highfields has been carefully planned as a modern take on traditional village development, in small pockets of homes blending with the Fenland countryside. Our ultimate aim is that it will become a thriving community of its own, contributing to high quality of life for residents.”
