Littleport Town U12's

Aztecs 1-1 Littleport Town Colts U12

Littleport produced their most spirited and at times best footballing display away to Aztecs.

Late withdrawals meant Port travelled to Aztecs with only 10 players and also played on an unfamiliar artificial pitch which should have provided a great advantage to the home team. Once again however the boys never say die attititude shone through.

From the outset the boys were sharp to their tackle and never allowed Aztecs time on the ball, in fact after initial dominance by Aztecs Port began to take the game to their opponents creating chances on the break. It was a case of soaking up pressure and using the pace and willing running of Tom Wakefield, Colt Harvey and Harlee Cater to cause the home defence problems. During this time Ethan Povey began to dominate the midfield and also joined the attack going close on one first half occassion.

To be fair as the half wore, and facing a strong head wind, Port were frustrating the home team more and more and Jamie Davidson in goal had little to do. The only time Aztecs looked dangerous were from the keepers long kicks. From one enormous kick the Aztecs striker was clean thro on goal but a fantastic saving tackle from Thomas Green prevented a certain goal. The breakthro however came just as Port were holding out for half-time from another long kick which was dispatched well, just after that Aztecs hit the top of the bar from another good shot.

The second half started with Port looking to get back into the game and the entire half was played in the home teams end. Jamie Davidson did not have 1 shot to save all half. Shots mostly from long range were unable to beat a good home keeper. Cater went close, Povey struck well, Harvey continued to look dangerous without an end product.

With around 5 minutes left Port finally found the breakthro as Harvey eluded his marker and placed a good finish accross the keeper - this was no more than Port deserved. From the kick off Port went back on the attack and with any more game time they looked the most likely to win the game however a draw was probably a fair result.

A fantastic game between 2 committed teams played on a surface which deserved such a good game. Well done boys for such fight with only ten players while also playing some great football.

The spine of the team deserves special mention: Jamie Davidson - faultless in goal, Morgan Coleridge and Thomas Green - rocks in central defence, Ethan Povey - dominant in midfield, Colt Harvey and Harlee Cater - full of running and energy all afternoon. Well done also to Ben and Tom Wakefield, Tommy Faulkner and Deividas Paukstys - all showed 100% effort to compensate for only 10 players
